Air India has announced plans to introduce new, retrofitted, or upgraded cabin interiors across its fleet on select international routes, notably deploying Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with new designs. The airline's schedule adjustments include increased frequencies to Tokyo, Toronto, Seoul, and Shanghai, enhancing capacity and connectivity during the Northern Summer Schedule 2026.
From July 2026, services to London Heathrow and Melbourne will feature upgraded cabins, with First Class reintroduced on the Melbourne route. Additionally, from August 2026, routes connecting Bengaluru, Delhi, and London Heathrow or Gatwick will operate with aircraft featuring new interiors and cabin classes like Premium Economy and First Class, as well as partial usage of legacy aircraft during transition periods.
Complementing its fleet upgrades, Air India has opened a flagship Maharaja Lounge at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 3, offering premium amenities including the Aviator’s Bar, Globetrotter’s Study, Serenity Area, and Sleep Suites, designed to enhance the passenger experience. The lounge’s rollout will be phased to accommodate First and Business Class travelers as well as elite loyalty members.
Throughout its fleet modernization efforts, Air India is also acquiring new aircraft, including three line-fit Boeing 787-9 and two Airbus A350-1000 aircraft set for delivery in 2026, along with ongoing retrofitting of existing Boeing 787-8 aircraft in a customized livery and cabin style. These initiatives aim to boost international transit capacity and renew the airline’s brand image, aligning with its growth and customer service enhancement goals.
