Air India is currently under investigation following reports that one of its Airbus A320 aircraft was operated multiple times without a valid airworthiness review, despite the aircraft's license lapsing. The incident, which involved at least eight flights before the aircraft was grounded, has prompted the airline to conduct a comprehensive internal review, acknowledging the gravity of operating an aircraft without proper certification.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) initiated an inquiry into the matter, emphasizing that operating aircraft without valid licenses constitutes a significant safety breach. The airline confirmed that the affected aircraft, which had an expired Certificate of Airworthiness, was grounded once the oversight was discovered.

Airline Response and Safety Commitments

Air India stated that the incident is regrettable and has reported it promptly to the DGCA. The airline also announced that personnel involved in the decision to operate the aircraft under expired certification have been suspended pending further investigation. It reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining highest safety standards and assured full cooperation with aviation authorities.

In a related safety incident earlier this year, an Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after takeoff, resulting in one passenger survivor and ground casualties. The airline has also reported that 95% of the families impacted by the crash have received interim compensation, reflecting ongoing efforts to address the tragedy.
