Sarawak's new full-service airline, AirBorneo, has announced a strategic partnership with IBM Malaysia to develop artificial intelligence and automation solutions. The collaboration aims to enable AirBorneo to prepare for commercial operations scheduled for 2026 by building a modern, scalable digital infrastructure that supports seamless airline operations and improved customer experiences.

To achieve this, the airline will implement IBM's webMethods Hybrid Integration and Cloud Pak for Integration, facilitating secure and real-time data exchange within its operational ecosystem. These technological enhancements are expected to increase operational agility and decision-making capabilities from day one.

Leadership and Strategic Goals

AirBorneo's CEO, Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin, expressed confidence that the adoption of AI will enhance customer engagement and optimize flight operations as the airline prepares for its jet launch in July 2026. The airline aims to strengthen regional connectivity to Sabah and Sarawak while pioneering innovations within Malaysia’s aviation industry.

“This integrated approach enables real-time visibility, secure data exchange, and greater operational agility across airline systems,” the statement said.

IBM Malaysia’s General Manager, Dickson Woo, noted that establishing a world-class airline extends beyond aircraft and infrastructure—it requires an intelligent digital foundation that anticipates passenger needs and streamlines processes. He highlighted that the collaboration exemplifies a shared commitment to transforming aviation through data-driven innovation.

IBM’s global services support clients across more than 175 countries in utilizing data insights, reducing costs, and maintaining a competitive edge, reflecting its dedication to technological advancement in the aviation sector.
