The Airbus Delivery Center in Mobile, Alabama, is currently managing the implementation of an emergency airworthiness directive released by the European Union Aviation Safety Administration (EASA) on November 28, 2025. The directive mandates immediate hardware and software modifications to the elevator aileron computer (ELAC) on approximately 6,000 Airbus A320 and A320neo family aircraft. This safety measure aims to address potential malfunctions that could impact aircraft operation but does not require grounding of the affected fleets.

Airlines operating these aircraft, including Avianca, American Airlines, IndiGo, Wizz Air, and Turkish Airlines, have reported affected aircraft numbers and have rapidly conducted upgrades, mostly overnight, to minimize operational disruption. The hardware fix involves repairs on older A320ceo models, while newer units require a software update. The procedure, described as a routine check in times of urgency, can be completed in a few hours during existing turnaround windows.

Fleet Impact and Safety Measures

The response highlights the importance of swift maintenance in response to regulatory directives, especially for large operators such as American Airlines, which manages 485 Airbus narrowbodies, and IndiGo, with 364 units. Most affected aircraft have been upgraded, ensuring continued safe operation of the fleet. The proactive approach ensures compliance and safety without major service disruptions, exemplifying the airline industry's capacity to respond promptly to safety directives.
