Airbus has announced its strong support for Sarawak's efforts to turn itself into a regional aviation hub, recognizing significant growth opportunities in the region. Anand Stanley, President of Airbus Asia-Pacific, highlighted the company's optimism regarding Sarawak’s long-term potential for expansion in various aviation sectors, including maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), and human resource development.
Stanley emphasized that Airbus is open to strategic collaborations to help realize Sarawak’s ambitions. He mentioned the company's interest in working with local entities, including AirBorneo, Sarawak’s state-owned full-service airline, which started operations earlier this year with a fleet of 14 aircraft. The airline serves 23 destinations within the region, utilizing ATR and Twin Otter aircraft.
This ongoing support and collaboration could significantly enhance Sarawak's plans to develop infrastructure and attract investments in its aviation industry, positioning it as a key regional hub for Southeast Asia. The initiatives align with Sarawak's strategic push to expand its connectivity and aviation footprint beyond domestic borders.
Continued development of Sarawak’s aviation ambitions, supported by industry leaders like Airbus, could accelerate its regional integration and economic growth, establishing the state as a vital center for aviation activities in the region.
