Airbus has inaugurated a major technology hub in Bengaluru, India, aiming to reinforce its engineering, digital innovation, and technical support capabilities for both aircraft manufacturing and maintenance sectors. Covering 880,000 square feet and employing around 5,000 staff, the Airbus India Technology Center consolidates engineering, digital transformation, customer support, and procurement under one roof, emphasizing Airbus’s commitment to the “Make in India” initiative.
Jürgen Westermeier, Airbus India and South Asia President and MD, stated that the center would help expand Airbus’s engineering and innovation capacity, supporting the entire lifecycle of aircraft and helicopter programs with cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and cybersecurity. The facility also aims to strengthen India’s aerospace talent pipeline, providing opportunities for local engineers to engage with global programs and complex engineering challenges.
Given India's rapid civil aviation growth, the center is expected to address the rising demand for maintenance engineers, technicians, and aerospace professionals. It will also feature a localized chapter of Airbus Leadership University, offering advanced training for future industry leaders. A dedicated customer service hub will deliver technical support globally, including maintenance advisory and troubleshooting services, to ensure operational efficiency and aircraft availability.
Supporting India’s growing procurement needs, the facility also coordinates sourcing and manufacturing within the country. To date, over 100 Indian suppliers have become part of Airbus’s global supply chain, providing critical aircraft components. The Bengaluru plant additionally supports several Airbus programs, such as the military C295 transport aircraft assembly in Vadodara and the Vemagal H125 helicopter assembly line near Bengaluru, reflecting a strategic expansion of Airbus’s manufacturing footprint in India.
Swaati Ketkar, an aviation journalist specializing in India, reports that Airbus’s investments underscore the country’s rising importance in global aerospace manufacturing, maintenance, and talent development, poised to support increased fleet growth and MRO capacity.
