April 7, 2026 — The aviation sector is advancing in sustainable practices, digital transformation, and strategic business moves. The Aircraft Fleet Recycling Association (AFRA) and Aethos have announced a call for innovative projects aimed at sustainability in aircraft recycling, with submissions due by May 1. Concurrently, Marubeni Corporation has completed its acquisition of Miami-based aviation inventory specialist DASI, intending to enhance its digital infrastructure and surplus inventory management.
In leadership changes, Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance has appointed Benoît Rollier as the new vice president of KLM Engine Services, taking over from Martijn de Vries, who now serves as senior vice president. Innovative Systems has also secured an exclusive license from Honeywell to support operational assets on Boeing 767, KC-46, and F-15 platforms, ensuring expanded capabilities for their clients.
Besides corporate movements, technological and operational initiatives are prominent. Airbus has spun off its Skywise predictive maintenance platform into a wholly owned subsidiary, combining it with Navblue’s flight operations tools to better serve customer needs. Ryanair opened a new €25 million maintenance hub at Madrid Barajas Airport, capable of servicing seven aircraft and creating 700 jobs. The facility aims to streamline aircraft maintenance, reinforce operational efficiency, and support the airline’s growth.
Moreover, DASI signed an agreement with Mesa Airlines to support fleet transition efforts by acquiring spare parts inventories for the CRJ700 and CRJ900 models. AerFin has purchased a Boeing 777-300ER previously operated by Japan Airlines, expanding its capacity to support operators of widebody aircraft. These developments highlight a continuous drive toward sustainability, operational excellence, and digital integration across the aviation industry.
