This article reports on recent efforts by aviation industry suppliers to develop ADS-B In retrofit solutions for Boeing 757 and 767 aircraft. These packages integrate advanced traffic awareness technology with cockpit display systems, aiming to help operators comply with upcoming FAA mandates while enhancing safety.
Unveiled at the MRO Americas conference, the retrofit combines ACSS’s ADS-B In systems with flat-panel displays developed by Innovative Aerosystems. For aircraft lacking these displays, a comprehensive package including a traffic collision avoidance system is offered. The retrofit is designed to be cost-effective and minimally disruptive, ensuring ease of deployment across a range of existing aircraft configurations.
Industry Implications
According to ACSS, the new packages will be available within approximately a year, primarily serving initial customers within Air Transport Services Group’s fleet. The development underscores ongoing efforts to modernize aircraft instruments and improve situational awareness, especially in light of recent safety incidents and the impending regulatory requirements for ADS-B compliance.
"The goal is to deliver a practical, low-cost solution that enhances safety and regulatory compliance without extensive cockpit modifications," said Cam Morast, ACSS Program Manager.
Experts believe that such integrated solutions support fleet modernization while reducing operational complexity, reinforcing the industry's broader priorities of safety, efficiency, and regulatory adherence.
