Leading airline and logistics companies, Air France KLM Martinair Cargo and DHL Global Forwarding, have announced the renewal of their strategic alliance aimed at promoting sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) use. The renewed agreement, spanning from 2025 to 2027, targets a reduction of approximately 35,000 tonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions in 2025 alone. Both organizations have previously collaborated successfully, with DHL achieving a reduction of over 77,000 tonnes of emissions during the 2022–2024 period.
Since initiating their SAF programs in 2020, the partners have concentrated on developing tailored solutions for their customers. DHL has incorporated SAF into its GoGreen Plus service, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability as part of its broader climate initiative. The extension of their partnership underscores a shared vision of decarbonizing the air freight industry through long-term collaboration and scalable fuel solutions.
Statements from Leadership
GertJan Roelands, SVP Commercial at Air France KLM Martinair Cargo, stated that the framework demonstrates mutual trust and a dedicated effort to expand SAF usage. Henk Venema, EVP of Global Airfreight at DHL, emphasized that predictability, scalability, and transparency are essential for the industry to realize the full potential of SAF and achieve meaningful emissions reductions.
This ongoing partnership highlights the crucial role of collaboration between airlines and freight companies in addressing climate change and making aviation more sustainable for the future.
