Alliance Air (India) has resumed domestic flights connecting Delhi International Airport with Shimla and Dharamsala. The airline reinstated a 6-times weekly service to Shimla on May 10, 2026, following a suspension of seven months, and initiated a Shimla-Dharamsala rotation, operating five times weekly. The flights are operated using ATR42-600 aircraft, supporting regional connectivity as part of the government’s UDAN scheme.
The service resumption was prompted by a High Court inquiry into the exclusion of Shimla from the regional air connectivity scheme, addressing previous technical and infrastructural constraints at the airport. Alliance Air remains the only airline operating at Shimla airport, serving vital regional travel needs and promoting economic activity in Himachal Pradesh.
The recent developments signify a reaffirmation of government policies aimed at strengthening regional air services and improving accessibility in remote areas. The airline’s fleet, consisting of ATR42-600 turboprops, is well-suited to serve short-haul regional routes, supporting ongoing efforts to boost regional development through aviation infrastructure improvements.
