Dominican Republic-based airline Arajet is actively pursuing expansion in the United States and exploring strategic partnerships to strengthen its network bridging North and Latin America. Speaking at Routes Americas 2026 in Rio de Janeiro, Priya Karnani, the airline’s vice president of network development, expressed confidence in the US market's growth potential following the recent open skies agreement between the US and the Dominican Republic.
Since entering the US market in April last year, Arajet has established routes linking Santo Domingo and Punta Cana with key US gateways including Miami, Newark, and Chicago O'Hare. The airline has faced challenges in building brand recognition but aims to leverage transfer traffic through its Dominican hubs, similar to models employed by other Latin American carriers like Copa Airlines.
Future Outlook and Strategic Focus
Karnani highlighted plans to expand further into the US as additional aircraft become available, possibly including West Coast destinations. Currently operating 13 Boeing 737-8s, the airline anticipates increasing its fleet to 17 aircraft by the end of 2026.
In addition to network growth, Arajet is evaluating potential collaborations with North American airlines through interline or codeshare agreements to extend its reach. The company continues to engage with industry partners to identify the most suitable arrangements for future cooperation.
