The aviation industry in the Asia Pacific region has experienced a slowdown in demand growth following a post-pandemic surge, according to a recent analysis presented at the CAPA Airline Leader Summit in Singapore. While international traffic levels have returned to pre-pandemic figures, further growth has been subdued due to various operational challenges.

During last year's event in Hong Kong, capacity growth had already plateaued, but this year's data indicates an even starker flattening of growth, suggesting the industry is approaching full recovery. Contributing factors include ongoing supply chain issues, delivery delays, and engine shortages that impact capacity planning.

Industry Confidence and Future Outlook

Despite these constraints, airlines in the region remain optimistic about future expansion, evidenced by the order of 224 aircraft in 2025 alone. The profitability of airlines continues to support fleet investments, although profits are under increased pressure, hinting that the current cycle may have peaked.

Regional market analysis highlights specific markets such as Thailand, Mainland China, and Japan, reflecting diverse recovery trajectories and capacity adjustments. Overall, while the region demonstrates resilience, the industry faces a transitional period with some headwinds ahead.
