The European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) has elected Karin Puleo-Leodolter, the head of the Air Group at the Austrian Civil Aviation Authority, as President of its Provisional Council. This historic appointment marks the first time Austria has led this central body since joining EUROCONTROL in 1993, and it is also the first time a woman has held this position.

This election strengthens Austria's influence within European aviation policy and highlights the importance of diversity in international decision-making. Federal Minister Peter Hanke congratulated Puleo-Leodolter, emphasizing that her election is a recognition of Austria's capacity to assume responsibility at the European level.

The Provisional Council oversees key policy decisions, guiding EUROCONTROL's strategy and representing its 41 member states. Her leadership comes at a crucial time, as EUROCONTROL addresses issues such as safety, digitalization, ecological sustainability, and decarbonising aviation, especially in light of recent challenges and crises. Her presidency is expected to influence the continued resilience and future direction of European air traffic management.
