Aviation leasing and finance activities saw notable developments recently, with Avolon completing its inaugural Samurai loan, raising US$420 million from Japanese and international banks. This five-year, dual-tranche facility marked a historic debut for a European issuer in the Samurai market and signified Avolon’s entry into non-USD funding channels. The syndicate of 12 banks, predominantly Japanese or with Tokyo branches, demonstrates continued global investor interest in cross-border aviation finance structures. Avolon’s CFO emphasized the importance of diversifying sources of capital and strengthening international banking ties through such transactions.
In addition to debt financing, aircraft investment firm Stratos announced the sale of several aircraft, including a Boeing 737-800 leased to Sunexpress and various Boeing 777-300ERs leased to Middle Eastern and Asian investors. These sales enable the clients to realize attractive returns in a buoyant market environment. Stratos’s leadership expressed satisfaction that these transactions reaffirm their expertise in delivering above-market returns and liquidating large assets efficiently.
The industry’s dynamic environment encompasses ongoing leasing, asset sales, and infrastructure investments, reflecting resilience amid evolving market conditions. These activities underpin the broader aviation industry’s ability to adapt and expand, driven by strategic capital deployment and asset management strategies.
