Dubai-based premium leisure airline Beond has announced plans to establish operations in Bahrain following a positive commitment from civil aviation authorities. The move aims to bolster Bahrain's development as a luxury travel hub, with projections indicating that the airline’s Bahrain operations could contribute up to USD 1.5 billion to the country’s GDP over five years after securing an Air Operator Certificate (AOC).
The airline intends to base up to ten Airbus aircraft, including Airbus A321 and Airbus A319 models, by 2030. Currently, Beond operates flights from Dubai, Riyadh, Zurich, Munich, Milan, the Maldives, and the Red Sea, with expansion plans into Europe, Asia, and the UK subject to regulatory approval. Its strategic focus aligns with Bahrain’s Vision 2030, emphasizing economic diversification and regional connectivity.
Economic and Employment Impact
Beond’s CEO, Tero Taskila, highlighted the opportunities for building a premium aviation platform that promotes local talent development and innovation. The project is expected to create over 1,200 high-skilled jobs directly, along with more than 6,000 indirect roles in tourism, hospitality, and logistics sectors. Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Sheikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, welcomed the partnership, underscoring the mutual benefits for Bahrain’s evolving aviation industry and regional prominence.
“Establishing a Bahrain-based airline is a natural next step in our multi-jurisdictional strategy. Together, we have the opportunity to build a premium aviation platform that strengthens connectivity, develops specialized talent, and supports innovation across the travel value chain,” said Tero Taskila.
Furthermore, Beond intends to leverage Bahrain’s technological infrastructure, including artificial intelligence, to optimize operations such as maintenance and passenger experiences. The airline’s development plans reflect Bahrain’s broader aspiration to become a regional hub for luxury travel, supported by continuous growth in its aviation sector and strategic regional partnerships.
