BermudAir, a Bermuda-based scheduled carrier, is preparing to expand into freight services with a leased Embraer E190(F), marking the first use of this freighter variant in the Americas. The airline revealed plans to convert five of its E190 aircraft into freighters through lessor Regional One, aiming to bolster its regional network connecting Bermuda and the Caribbean with North America.
CEO Adam Scott stated, "Cargo is a natural next step for us. The E190(F) enables us to efficiently move express freight, support local businesses, and facilitate e-commerce across our islands." Currently, BermudAir’s fleet includes two E175s and two E190s, with additional orders for A220-300 aircraft. The approval process for the freighter conversions is underway, with expected EASA certification in early 2025.
Operational Context and Market Potential
The E190(F) is operationally deployed solely by Bridges Air Malta, which began service with the type in March 2026. BermudAir’s entry as a second operator signals growing interest in regional freighters. Furthermore, a recent deal saw lessor Azorra purchase twenty E190(F)s from Embraer, with options for ten more, indicating a positive outlook for this aircraft type in regional cargo markets.
BermudAir's strategic move into freight complements its established passenger operations, aiming to improve logistics and connectivity for Bermuda and surrounding islands. The airline’s focus on regional expansion underscores its response to market demand and regulatory developments, positioning it as a key player in the Caribbean cargo sector.
