Boeing has announced a significant milestone in its certification process for the 777X family, having received initial qualification for its 777-9 flight training simulators from both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This achievement marks a crucial step toward the aircraft's eventual certification and entry into commercial service.
The qualification was announced on February 19, 2026, at Boeing's Gatwick training campus in the United Kingdom, developed in partnership with CAE. The simulators include a full-flight simulator and a flight training device capable of replicating the advanced systems of the 777X, and are expected to be used by regulators to validate training software before airline pilot training begins.
The 777-9, the first member of the 777X series to undergo certification, remains in flight testing. Boeing plans to conduct its first production flight in April 2026, aiming for certification later this year and first delivery anticipated in 2027. However, the program has faced delays over the past several years, with some predicting the aircraft's entry into service could be delayed until 2027, which would represent a seven-year delay from initial plans. The certification process is seen as vital to the broader family of aircraft, which can progress only when the 777-9 is approved.
In related news, Boeing's recent discussions and progress highlight the ongoing efforts to bring the aircraft to market amid past delays, with the program's future closely watched within the aviation industry.
