After a prolonged period of crisis and scrutiny, Boeing says it is ready to grow again – but only at a pace dictated by discipline and regulators.

Speaking during a factory walk-through at Boeing’s Renton facility in Washington State, Katie Ringgold, general manager for the 737 program, noted that the company’s narrowbody production system is being run with discipline rather than urgency. This approach is allowing Boeing to steadily raise output after nearly two years of heightened safety oversight.

The aircraft manufacturer’s production rate has been limited following an incident involving Alaska Airlines, which triggered increased surveillance by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA capped 737 production at 38 aircraft per month; however, Boeing was authorized to increase this to 42 aircraft last November, signaling a cautious recovery.

With a backlog of nearly 4,800 aircraft and delivery slots booked until 2030, Boeing is focusing on sustainable growth in its narrowbody program. The recent acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems and the opening of a new assembly line at Everett are pivotal to its expansion plans, targeting a further increase to 47 aircraft per month by 2026.

"Boeing is committed to balanced growth, prioritizing safety, quality, and regulatory compliance," said a Boeing spokesperson. Industry analysts view these moves as strategic, aiming to meet global demand while maintaining safety standards amidst regulatory oversight.
