British Airways has begun the deployment of an innovative cloud-based line maintenance management platform developed by the UK software company MRO-PRO. This initiative marks a major advancement in the airline’s digital transformation, aiming to streamline maintenance processes across their international network.

The new system will be implemented initially at over 30 stations worldwide, including prominent hubs such as London Gatwick, Madrid, Miami, and Sydney, by January 2026. Engineers at these stations will employ mobile tablets to record live technical data during aircraft servicing, which will be instantly relayed to British Airways and their customers, enabling faster decisions and improved transparency.

Key Features and Benefits

The platform integrates resource planning, combining inbound flight schedules with engineer availability, and includes a live flight radar for optimized aircraft positioning. It also manages logistics, spares, and invoicing, aiming to increase operational efficiency and billing accuracy. Gavin Shearer, Head of Line Maintenance Operations, highlighted that the system has already resulted in simplified workflows, better data insights, and enhanced work allocation based on flight delay tracking.

"The system has enabled simplified aircraft workflows with enhanced performance visibility for managers, through improved data insights, and delivered smarter work allocation using flight radar feeds to track any aircraft delays and reprioritize tasks," said Gavin Shearer, adding that full engineer adoption was achieved following extensive training.

The solution, created by Scott Wells, provides a multi-platform, cloud-based approach that connects operators, maintenance providers, and support teams in real time. This development reflects a broader industry trend toward digitalization, aiming for increased efficiency and more data-driven maintenance operations.
