The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has assured the public that it maintains adequate fuel supplies for airports in the event of power outages. According to CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio, the airports possess enough reserve diesel fuel, which is seldom used, ensuring readiness despite potential nationwide fuel shortages due to tensions in the Middle East.
CAAP manages 44 commercial airports across the country. Apolonio also stated that airlines have sufficient fuel for their flights to operate normally. However, he warned that flight schedules might be affected by late April or early May due to a 100% increase in fuel surcharges, as airlines seek to maintain profitability amid rising fuel costs.
Philippine Airlines confirmed on March 25 that it has secured enough fuel to sustain its domestic and international services. Conversely, Cebu Pacific has canceled and limited several overseas flights recently because of escalating fuel prices. This situation underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the aviation sector amid volatile fuel markets.
