The California Science Center is preparing to unveil a new aviation-themed exhibit, which will prominently feature a section of the Korean Air Boeing 747-400, allowing visitors to step inside the aircraft's upper and lower decks, including the cockpit. This expansion within the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center will showcase nearly 20 aircraft, with interactive displays aimed at engaging visitors in aviation science and engineering.
The museum's curator, Perry Roth-Johnson, highlighted the restoration of the 747 section, emphasizing its visual appeal and educational value. Korean Air's Chairman and CEO, Walter Cho, expressed the goal of inspiring children by demonstrating the science, engineering, and imagination behind aircraft, encouraging them to consider careers in aviation.
Alongside the 747, the exhibit will include suspended aircraft such as the Convair F-106A Delta Dart and the Grumman F11F-1 Tiger, along with others currently in restoration. The galleries are designed to incorporate vertical viewing from multiple levels, making for an immersive experience.
Scheduled to open soon, the new galleries will be free to the public, further cementing Los Angeles' reputation as a hub for innovative museums and educational experiences. This expansion is part of a broader museum boom in the city, enhancing the public's access to aerospace history and technology.
