Hong Kong – Cathay Pacific has celebrated its 80th anniversary with a unique cultural performance developed in collaboration with the Hong Kong Dance Company. The eight-minute presentation, titled “80 Years Together,” was performed at Hong Kong International Airport and Taikoo Place, featuring 80 Cathay staff members dressed in iconic uniforms that depict various stages of the airline’s history.
The performance was directed by Yang Yuntao, with music by Patrick Lui, and designed to symbolize Cathay’s journey and its cultural connections with the city of Hong Kong. Inspired by the dance drama “Kung Fu Artistry” and Bruce Lee, the choreography emphasizes movement and shared cultural heritage, reflecting the airline’s role in fostering global connectivity and local pride.
Child dancers portraying cabin crew and pilots participated, symbolizing future generations and ongoing innovation in aviation. Edward Bell, Cathay Pacific’s General Manager of Brand, Insights, and Marketing Communications, stated that the celebration underscores the airline’s journey with its community and passengers, emphasizing energy, emotion, and a distinctly Hong Kong spirit.
Christopher Lee of Publicis Groupe Hong Kong highlighted dance's ability to bridge cultural and generational gaps, noting that this production exemplifies the city’s cosmopolitan identity and hopes for the future of Hong Kong and Cathay Pacific.
