Cathay Pacific is implementing a major upgrade to its regional fleet by introducing the new Aria Studio cabin, designed to provide a superior onboard experience on short-haul routes using widebody aircraft. The airline plans to retrofit 20 Airbus A330-300s and equip 30 Airbus A330-900 aircraft with the new product, aiming to standardize its premium offering across its regional network.
The Aria Studio features a reverse herringbone seat layout in a 1-2-1 configuration, ensuring direct aisle access for every passenger. The seats can transform into fully flat beds, bringing comfort to short flights out of Hong Kong International Airport, a key hub for the airline. This move is part of a strategic response to intense regional competition from airlines such as Singapore Airlines and Starlux Airlines, which already offer lie-flat seats on routes typically served by narrower aircraft.
Industry analysts note that Cathay Pacific’s initiative signifies a shift toward high-end short-haul travel, where regional premium cabins are increasingly aligned with long-haul standards. The upgrade reflects broader industry trends where airlines are leveraging widebody aircraft for regional routes to attract premium travelers and maintain competitive advantage. The comprehensive rollout is expected to begin in late 2026, with a focus on consistency, passenger satisfaction, and fleet modernization to meet evolving market demands.
