China Airlines, based in Taiwan, has received significant recognition for its pioneering efforts in sustainable aviation. The airline was awarded the "Organizational Transformation Award – Transformational Impact through SAF" at the 4th SkyTeam Aviation Challenge, highlighting its demonstration flight using a 40% blend of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) on Airbus A350-900 aircraft traveling between Taoyuan and Bangkok.
Additionally, China Airlines was honored by Taiwan’s Civil Aviation Administration with the "Sustainable Development Award" for its use of SAF on flights from Kaohsiung and Songshan airports, setting new records in the country. The airline’s comprehensive sustainability initiatives include reducing plastic waste, digitalizing operations, and adapting its fleet to climate challenges—all aligned with its goal of achieving a net-zero emissions future.
Internationally recognized, China Airlines has been a stable component of the FTSE4Good TIP Taiwan ESG Index since 2019, which signifies its strong emphasis on sustainability governance. Moving forward, the airline intends to expand its cross-industry collaborations, promote SAF use in partnership with government and academic institutions, and lead Taiwan’s aviation industry towards a sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
