China Eastern Airlines (CEA) has announced its plans to optimise and expand its international flight network in 2026. The airline aims to enhance global connectivity by launching new routes, increasing frequencies on existing routes, and resuming certain international services. The focus will be on markets across Europe, Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Central Asia, as well as Australia and New Zealand.
From Shanghai Pudong International Airport, CEA is set to introduce two new routes. The Tashkent route in Uzbekistan will commence on March 30, and the Adelaide route in Australia will launch between June 20 and August 2. Additionally, a new service connecting Xi'an and Vienna will start on April 20. The airline also plans to expand its route options to Mumbai, Dublin, Cheongju, Manado, Surabaya, Tbilisi, and Ulaanbaatar.
Enhancing Flight Frequencies for Key Markets
CEA intends to bolster capacity in established international markets by increasing flight frequencies on routes to European destinations including Copenhagen, London Gatwick, Frankfurt, Barcelona, and Venice. Flights between Shanghai Pudong and Australian destinations such as Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane will also see increased frequency to meet rising demand.
Regional routes between Shanghai Pudong and cities like Daegu and Cebu are also expected to experience more flights. The airline plans to resume routes to Kolkata, India, and Stockholm, Sweden, to address regional capacity gaps. Future studies are ongoing to explore potential new routes connecting Shanghai to European cities such as Prague, Belgrade, and Bucharest, as well as Southeast Asian markets like Davao.
Overall, CEA's strategic expansion aims to strengthen its international connectivity and responsiveness to market demands, positioning itself for future growth in the global aviation sector.
