China Eastern Air Logistics (CEAL) has partnered with Lödige Industries to enhance cargo handling efficiency at Shanghai Pudong International Airport by deploying automated guided vehicles (AGVs). Six 10-foot AGVs capable of transporting loads up to 6.8 tonnes each have been integrated into CEAL’s cargo terminal 4, significantly improving operational automation and flexibility.

The AGV system is embedded with Lödige’s Cargo Management System, a sophisticated terminal management platform that facilitates cargo flow planning, guidance, and real-time tracking. This system provides real-time data analytics accessible via mobile devices, enabling streamlined operations and improved safety standards.

According to Weddy Pan, Senior Deputy Manager at China Eastern Air Logistics, the AGV deployment has surpassed expectations, transforming logistics workflows and supporting future growth. Nicholas Tripptree of Lödige Industries highlighted that the technology facilitates automation in air cargo environments, offering a scalable solution that reduces manual reliance and supports 24/7 operations. Manufactured in Germany, all AGVs underwent rigorous quality testing and work in harmony with existing systems to boost cargo throughput and operational intelligence.
