China Southern Airlines has announced a new initiative offering free overnight transit accommodation in Guangzhou and Shenzhen for eligible Australian travelers. This program, running from January 1 through June 30, 2026, is aimed at passengers with confirmed seats on China Southern flights transiting through these airports, including flights to Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. The offer includes hotel stays with breakfast and transportation, provided certain conditions are met.
The airline’s move coincides with a record increase in flight frequency between Sydney and Guangzhou, now operating three daily services throughout the year. This schedule expansion positions Sydney as China Southern’s largest market in Oceania and enhances its international connectivity.
Furthermore, the airline plans to increase its services during the Northern Summer, adding a fourth daily Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flight during peak periods such as Chinese New Year. This will generate approximately 125,000 additional seats, improving options for travelers and strengthening the airline’s presence in the Australian market.
Passengers qualifying for the free stay are covered by specific timing requirements, with options for same-day or overnight transits. Those not meeting the criteria can still reserve rooms at preferential rates via China Southern’s partnership with Pearl Hotels.
Overall, these improvements demonstrate China Southern’s strategic focus on expanding and enhancing its services in Oceania and across its international network, offering better connectivity and travel experiences for its passengers.
