China is set to open two new domestic regional airports, Bengbu Tenghu and Tongren Dejiang, in the second quarter of 2026. Bengbu Tenghu will start operations on April 29, 2026, with a flight operated by Donghai Airlines from Shenzhen, featuring a 2,600-meter runway and a capacity to handle 950,000 passengers annually. Meanwhile, Tongren Dejiang is scheduled to open on May 18 after completing pre-flight inspections on April 15. It will initially be served by Colorful Guizhou Airlines with flights from Guiyang using an Embraer E190 to be operated three times weekly. The airport costs CNY 2.2 billion (USD 320 million) and can handle 550,000 passengers annually.
These developments are part of China's broader efforts to enhance regional connectivity and expand its aviation infrastructure. The new airports aim to facilitate economic growth and increased mobility in Guizhou Province. Several airlines and authorities have expressed optimism regarding the positive impact of these facilities on local travel and business activities.
