Recently, the aviation industry saw a significant milestone as Comlux Group, a prominent executive aircraft provider, obtained US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval to install cabin interiors on its corporate variant of the Airbus A220, known as the ACJ TwoTwenty. This certification follows previous approval from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), marking a dual endorsement of the aircraft’s interior standards.
The approval was granted to Comlux America, the US division of the group, through collaboration with its Maltese subsidiary DOA21, holder of the necessary design certification. Although no ACJ TwoTwenty has yet been registered in the United States, company executives, including CEO Adam White, expressed confidence that obtaining the certification will facilitate a smooth and timely entry into the North American market.
The ACJ TwoTwenty, based on the Airbus A220-100 airframe, offers a versatile platform for bespoke private and business jet configurations. Comlux has previously certified the Boeing BBJ Max 8 cabin, emphasizing its expertise in certifying high-end corporate aircraft. Peter Gaughan, head of DOA21, highlighted the certification milestone as a key development for the organisation’s growth.
This certification expands the potential customer base for the ACJ TwoTwenty, enabling Comlux to meet the demands of North American clients seeking a modern, efficient, and customizable business jet solution. The company anticipates that the aircraft’s certification will support a straightforward introduction process, providing a timely entry into a lucrative market segment.
