The Boeing 777X is the latest twin-engine widebody aircraft from Boeing, aimed at replacing older models and competing with Airbus's A350 series. Launched in 2013, the program has attracted over 600 orders but has faced significant delays, with first deliveries now expected in 2027. The aircraft features advanced composite wings with folding wingtips, larger windows, higher ceilings, and more spacious cabins similar to the Boeing 787.

Two variants exist: the 777-8, optimized for ultra-long-range missions with fewer seats and longer range, and the 777-9, designed for high-capacity routes with more seats. The 777-9 can seat approximately 426 passengers, surpassing many large aircraft like the A380, making it suitable for high-density routes.

The program's delays have been caused by pandemic disruptions, testing issues, engine hardware problems, and other technical hurdles. Initially scheduled to begin service in 2020, the first deliveries are now expected in 2027, with Lufthansa as the launch customer. Major airlines like Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Singapore Airlines have placed significant orders, though many carriers continue to wait for full certification and availability.

The 777X introduces several innovations, including larger wings, new engine technology, and a redesigned passenger cabin offering larger windows, better humidity, and wider seats. Its primary competitor, Airbus's A350-1000, is already in service, but the 777X's larger capacity provides a competitive advantage for high-density hub routes. Despite the delays, the aircraft's market potential remains strong, with notable airline commitments and anticipation of future operations.
