A Croatia Airlines Airbus A220-300 experienced a runway incident during an aborted takeoff at Split Airport on 16 May 2026. The aircraft, operating flight OU412 to Frankfurt, veered onto the grass during the takeoff roll from runway 23. The Croatian air accident investigation agency indicated that the event occurred around 13:35 and involved the aircraft's landing gear coming off the runway surface.

Fortunately, all passengers and crew were evacuated safely, with no injuries reported. Minor aircraft damage was noted, and video evidence suggests that reverse thrust may have been used during the incident, causing the left engine to strike a runway signboard. The airline confirmed that procedures were followed during the takeoff abort and that the aircraft remains at Split airport pending inspection.

Croatia Airlines highlighted its commitment to safety and arranged for a replacement aircraft to continue passenger travel to Frankfurt. The aircraft involved had been recently delivered as part of the airline’s fleet modernization efforts. Authorities have opened an inquiry to determine the causes of the incident.
