Starting April 2, 2026, the Romanian airline Dan Air will introduce a new direct flight route between Vienna and Bacau. This route, which marks the airline's first scheduled service at Vienna Airport (Schwechat), will initially operate two times a week on Thursdays and Sundays.
Operated with Airbus A319 and Airbus A320 aircraft, the flights are designed to facilitate efficient travel for both business and leisure passengers, with outbound flights departing Vienna in the morning and return flights arriving shortly after from Romania, taking into account the time difference.
Background and Market Context
Founded in 2017 under the name Just Us Air and rebranded as Dan Air in 2023, the airline has shifted its focus from charter services and wet leasing towards scheduled operations. After initial emphasis on Brașov Airport, operational challenges led Dan Air to establish Bacau as its main base for Western European routes, including destinations like London, Brussels, and Madrid.
"The new Vienna-Bacau route fills a significant gap for travelers in eastern Romania and the Moldavia region," said a Dan Air spokesperson. "It offers a quicker, more reliable connection to central Europe, supporting regional economic growth."
With a current fleet of three Airbus aircraft, Dan Air aims for controlled growth and competitive pricing, positioning itself against low-cost carriers while maintaining fixed schedules and a standard cabin configuration. The success of this route will largely depend on the airline's capacity to manage airport logistics at Vienna-Schwechat effectively.
