Plans are underway for a new US Part 121 cargo airline based at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG), according to industry sources. The project involves the recruitment of key personnel, with a focus on establishing Boeing 737-800 freighter operations, as announced in a LinkedIn post by Andrew Maas, vice president of government programmes for Naniq Government Services.
Maas indicated that the company is seeking experienced leaders capable of building the operation from the ground up, including certification, manuals, processes, systems, and organizational structure. Experience with Boeing 737-800 aircraft and cargo airline operations is considered particularly valuable for these roles.
Airport Development and Expansion
CVG has been actively enhancing its air cargo capabilities through recent infrastructure developments. In the past year, an 80,000 square foot air cargo facility operated by F&F opened within the Global Logistics Park. This follows the demolition of old cargo facilities in 2022 to make way for new infrastructure that improves cargo handling efficiency.
Furthermore, CVG and Burrell Aviation Cincinnati announced plans to build an additional 80,000 square foot air cargo warehouse with airside access on approximately 4.5 acres of airport land. Other notable expansions include a $192 million DHL Express facility, featuring a new aircraft maintenance unit, and a $1.5 billion Amazon Air hub, highlighting the airport’s significant investments in cargo logistics.
These developments underscore CVG’s strategic efforts to increase cargo volumes and attract new logistical services to the region, supporting the potential launch of the new cargo airline.
