DHL Express has strengthened its logistics capacity in Malaysia by adding a Boeing 767 freighter service on its daily Hong Kong-Penang route. This upgrade replaces the older Airbus A321 aircraft, allowing for an additional 20 tons of cargo per flight. The move aims to facilitate Malaysia’s expanding electronics and semiconductor sectors, especially in Penang, which has attracted significant manufacturing investments in 2025.
Peter Bardens, Senior Vice President for Network Operations & Aviation at DHL Express Asia Pacific, explained that the larger aircraft and regular schedule demonstrate DHL’s commitment to connecting Asia’s technological hubs with international markets. This enhancement reflects DHL’s focus on operational flexibility in the face of shifting trade dynamics. Julian Neo, Malaysia Country Manager for DHL, highlighted the country’s increasing role in regional trade, noting its position among the top 10 fastest-growing trading nations.
Supporting Malaysia’s Growing Industry
Mohamad Najib Ishak, Group Managing Director of Raya Airways, stated that the new service will bolster Malaysia’s connectivity and support high-value industries. The move aligns with DHL’s insights from the DHL Global Connectedness Tracker 2025, showing rising intra-Asia trade and Malaysia’s importance in global supply chains. Overall, this initiative underscores the significance of effective logistics in fostering economic growth and technological development in Malaysia.
