Diehl Aviation has announced its nomination as a finalist for the Crystal Cabin Award with its innovative Adaptive User Routing System (AURS). This system is designed to improve the accessibility of aircraft lavatories for passengers with visual or hearing impairments, transforming the user experience through tactile guidance, high-contrast surfaces, Braille, and visual safety announcements on integrated mirror screens.
Developed with input from travelers with sensory impairments, AURS emphasizes inclusive cabin design by incorporating adaptive lighting, optional audio cues, and a digital layer that personalizes the environment to individual needs. Built on the company's connected-cabin technology, the system is fully certifiable and already undergoing trials with accessibility groups, aiming to enhance independence, clarity, and dignity onboard aircraft.
Carsten Laufs, Senior Vice President of Product Innovation and Digitalization at Diehl Aviation, expressed pride in the innovation, stating that accessibility is becoming an integral part of the cabin experience. The award winners will be revealed at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg.
