Douglas County has officially renamed its annual aviation event, previously known as the Aviation Roundup, to Minden-Tahoe SkyFest. This decision followed a community voting process held earlier this year, reflecting local engagement and support. The event is scheduled to take place from October 16 to October 18 at the Minden-Tahoe Airport and will feature performances by the Patriots Jet Team, ground displays, and activities suitable for families. An after-dark aviation experience is also planned, emphasizing the region's aviation heritage.

Heather MacDonnell, the Minden-Tahoe Airport Manager, stated that the new name captures both the locale and the community’s aviation enthusiasm. She expressed gratitude to those who participated in shaping the event’s branding. Additionally, the county is seeking volunteers for various roles including guest services, parking, and logistics to support the success of SkyFest. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply through the county’s volunteer portal.

This event aims to celebrate the rich aviation history of the Sierra region and to foster community involvement in the aviation industry. It is regarded as a major regional occasion that promotes aviation excellence and heritage, drawing both residents and visitors to experience the region's flying traditions and performances.
