Dubai Airports is actively promoting sustainable aviation initiatives at the Dubai Airshow 2025, highlighting its efforts through the OneDXB Sustainability Showcase. The exhibit demonstrates how the busy hub is integrating environmentally friendly technologies and practices, including electrified ground operations and alternative fuels, to advance its goal of becoming a net-zero airport regionally and globally.
The OneDXB Sustainability Alliance, composed of major regional partners, was launched in September 2024 with the aim of fostering collaborative decarbonization efforts across the Dubai aviation ecosystem. Dubai Airports’ plans include integrating sustainability into the development of the Dubai World Central (DWC) mega-hub, ensuring environmental considerations are embedded from the start.
Sustainable Technologies on Display
The showcase features a range of innovative solutions, from electric fire trucks and autonomous vehicles to solar-powered systems and biofuel demonstrations. Dubai Airports has already begun deploying biofuel in its operations and is exploring hydrogen-powered ground transport, supported by partnerships with industry leaders like Airbus.
"There’s no single solution to aviation’s net-zero goal. It’s about a combination of many actions—electrification, biofuels, hydrogen, and operational efficiencies—each one moving the needle further," said Sven Deckers.
Research efforts focus on converting regional waste oils into sustainable aviation fuels and exploring solar-powered fuel production methods, leveraging Dubai’s abundant solar resources. The airport’s multi-year strategy involves decarbonizing existing facilities, testing innovative solutions, and designing new airport infrastructure with sustainability at its core.
Overall, Dubai Airports is positioning itself as a pioneer in sustainable aviation, aiming to lead the industry with practical, scalable solutions that will help achieve long-term environmental goals.
