EasyJet has announced plans to introduce 18 new routes from ten UK airports for the summer of 2027, expanding its leisure travel network amid ongoing acquisition proceedings by Apollo, valued at £5.7 billion.
The airline's expansion includes increased frequencies, with a peak of 35X-weekly outbound flights, connecting UK airports with 16 destinations in Bulgaria, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Montenegro, and Spain. The most notable additions are to Spain, including flights to Girona, which will be the airline's first UK services to that destination. Flights from Liverpool and London Gatwick to Girona will operate multiple times weekly from March and June respectively.
Scotland will experience the greatest route expansion, with connections from Aberdeen and Edinburgh to major European cities such as Bilbao, Hamburg, Rome Fiumicino, and Tivat, each operating twice weekly. Additional routes include services from London Gatwick, Bristol, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, and London Southend, with varying weekly frequencies. Notably, Southend Airport will base a new Airbus A320neo, supporting job creation and passenger traffic exceeding 1 million in 2027.
The company's data shows a significant increase in capacity from the previous summer, with capacity rising by over 5% and the number of routes expanding from 539 to 599. Spain remains the largest international market for EasyJet from the UK, accounting for over 4.5 million seats in summer 2026, with Italy also experiencing growth. The announcement comes amid European regulatory approval processes for Apollo's planned acquisition, which will see the ownership of EasyJet capped at 49.9%.
