Egnatia Aviation celebrated its 20th anniversary with the official opening of Lydia Aerodrome, a newly constructed general aviation airport in Amygdaleonas, Kavala, Greece. The event on September 18, 2026, highlights the completion of significant infrastructure supporting the company's pilot training programs, which have been operating there since early 2023.
The airport offers a 1,330-meter asphalt runway, 28 aircraft parking stands, and support facilities including a control tower, fueling stations, and maintenance services. Recognized as Greece's first privately owned general aviation airport, Lydia enables Egnatia to operate with greater flexibility, conducting up to 14 hours of daily training activities across most of the year.
This development represents a strategic enhancement for Egnatia Aviation, allowing it to conduct larger-scale training and support its expanding fleet and cadet numbers. In 2025, the organization experienced an 18% increase in cadet intake and a 21% rise in training hours, supporting its goal of training more airline pilots. The facility's capacity to handle aircraft up to 5,700 kg MTOW, along with fuel services for Jet A-1, AVGAS 100LL, and MOGAS 95UL, underscores its significance in the region's aviation training landscape.
Founded in 2006, Egnatia Aviation now employs its graduates at over 60 airlines worldwide and trains over 25,000 flight hours annually. The open of Lydia Aerodrome marks a milestone in Greece's aviation education sector, providing a dedicated platform for future pilots and supporting the country’s broader aerospace ambitions.
