Egypt Promotes Green Hydrogen and Sustainable Aviation Fuels
Egypt is actively working to enhance its sustainable aviation sector through investments in green hydrogen and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). During the Egypt Green Hydrogen Forum 2026, Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El Hefny emphasized the country’s commitment to environmental standards and technological advancement.
The forum, organized by the German Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce with cooperation from GIZ, gathered government officials, industry experts, and sector representatives to discuss the role of green energy in reducing carbon emissions in transportation.
El Hefny highlighted ongoing initiatives such as increasing solar energy use at airports and fostering investments in SAF production in cooperation with relevant ministries. He also revealed plans to establish a new SAF production facility as part of efforts to localize low-emission aviation industries and facilitate technology transfer.
Egypt’s geographical location, infrastructure, and renewable energy resources are seen as an advantage in becoming a regional hub for green hydrogen and sustainable fuel production. The minister also reaffirmed Egypt’s adherence to environmental standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), aligning with global sustainability commitments.
In addition, discussions between the tourism and aviation sectors focused on potential collaborations in airport development, improving passenger experiences, and enhancing Egypt’s competitiveness in tourism. These efforts demonstrate Egypt’s dedication to advancing sustainable transportation and environmental responsibility in aviation.
