Boeing and EgyptAir announced that the Egyptian national airline has received its first Boeing 737 MAX, marking a milestone in its fleet renewal plan. The aircraft, a 737-8 model, is the first of 18 such jets leased from SMBC Aviation Capital, representing EgyptAir's entry into the MAX family.
The airline's existing fleet includes 30 Next-Generation 737 jets, and the addition of the 737 MAX is set to improve operational efficiency, reduce emissions, and ensure fleet commonality. EgyptAir intends to operate the new aircraft on routes connecting Cairo with Paris, Brussels, Istanbul, and Vienna.
Captain Ahmed Adel, chairman and CEO of EgyptAir Holding, commented that the delivery signifies a key step toward modernizing their fleet. He highlighted the aircraft's advanced technology and sustainability features, which align with their growth strategy. Boeing's Vice President for Africa, Anbessie Yitbarek, noted that EgyptAir’s longstanding relationship with Boeing dates back to 1975, and the new 737 MAX enhances their ability to connect Egypt to the world while emphasizing efficiency and passenger comfort through features like Boeing Sky Interior.
