EHang, the Chinese aerospace company, has successfully conducted its first pilotless urban passenger flight in Bangkok, Thailand, under the auspices of the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) and the country's AAM Sandbox Initiative. The event, held at Siam Commercial Bank's headquarters, showcased the EH216-S aircraft performing multiple successful flight routes across Bangkok’s downtown core. Notably, CAAT Director General, Air Chief Marshal Manat Chavanaprayoon, experienced the flight firsthand, becoming the first civil aviation authority chief worldwide to test the aircraft in an urban environment.
The demonstration attracted high-level officials and business leaders, highlighting the advancing capabilities and safety features of EHang’s autonomous air mobility technology. The aircraft executed a series of takeoffs, landings, and route flights with exceptional smoothness, drawing applause from attendees. The event underscores the progress of Thailand’s AAM industry and represents a key step toward commercial deployment of autonomous passenger drones in Southeast Asia.
Throughout the event, EHang’s team engaged with CAAT representatives to discuss safety protocols, operational systems, and maintenance strategies, emphasizing their commitment to regulatory compliance and technical robustness. The flight validation included rigorous testing under extreme conditions, further reinforcing trust in the aircraft’s safety and commercial viability. This milestone positions EHang as a global leader in autonomous urban flights, opening new opportunities for urban air mobility services in the region.
