Emirates Airline has initiated a major infrastructure project in Dubai South, breaking ground on a $5.1 billion engineering and maintenance complex. The facility, designed to be one of the world's largest and most ambitious, will span 1.1 million square meters and will create thousands of jobs across various levels, from technical to administrative roles, with completion expected by mid-2030.
This state-of-the-art complex will feature the largest free-span hangar globally, capable of servicing 28 wide-body aircraft simultaneously, along with a dedicated 285-meter-wide hangar for aircraft painting and the largest landing gear workshop. It aims to support Emirates' maintenance needs while expanding regional and global aviation capabilities.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum highlighted the project's role in advancing Dubai’s aviation ambitions, aligning with the D33 economic agenda. The facility will support aircraft conversions, structural modifications, and cabin redesigns, allowing Emirates and other operators to enhance operational flexibility and reduce turnaround times. Sustainable features like solar panels will help achieve a LEED Platinum rating, reflecting Dubai's broader green commitments.
The project strengthens Dubai’s reputation as a premier aerospace maintenance hub, supporting the regional and global aircraft industry with advanced infrastructure and capabilities. Operations are set to commence with heavy maintenance services for Emirates, expanding over time to include other aviation sectors and supporting Dubai's position as a global aerospace center.
