Emirates is preparing to reconfigure 15 of its Airbus A380-800 aircraft as part of an ongoing project to upgrade its fleet. This initiative involves transforming these aircraft into a three-class layout, resulting in an 8% reduction in total seating capacity from 615 to 569 seats. The airline plans to install 56 additional premium economy seats while increasing business class seats from 58 to 76. Consequently, economy class lower deck capacity will decrease by 120 seats, from 557 to 437, to improve passenger comfort and service offerings.
The first of these reconfigured aircraft is scheduled to enter service on April 14, 2026, on the Dubai International to Amman Queen Alia route. The upgrades are contingent on the resolution of airspace restrictions within the UAE, with full retrofit completion expected by November 2026. This fleet enhancement reflects Emirates’ commitment to modernizing its fleet and meeting evolving passenger demands.
The modified aircraft are expected to operate across various routes from Dubai, optimizing capacity and supporting strategic expansion in the Middle East. The retrofit underscores the airline’s focus on enhancing passenger experience and operational efficiency, particularly in key regional markets.
