Emirates is set to initiate daily nonstop flights between Dubai and Helsinki, starting October 1, marking its first year-round service to Finland. The airline aims to bolster its European network and enhance connectivity for travelers heading to Asia. The new service will be operated using Airbus A350 aircraft equipped with various cabins, competing directly with Finnair's seasonal flights.
According to Emirates' Deputy President Adnan Kazim, there is strong existing demand between Helsinki and Dubai, and the new route is expected to attract additional travelers and stimulate market growth. The schedule is designed to facilitate onward connections to destinations across Asia, Australia, Africa, and the Middle East.
European Network Expansion
Helsinki is a key addition to Emirates’ extensive European presence, which currently includes 40 destinations with roughly 81 daily departures. The Finnish capital has not enjoyed sustained year-round service from the Gulf since flydubai ceased operations in March 2022. Meanwhile, Qatar Airways has transferred its Doha-Helsinki route to Finnair, which plans to expand long-haul service to Australia in October 2026.
Market and Aviation Context
The launch aligns with renewed activity at Helsinki Airport, including China's Southern Airlines' plans to operate a nonstop route from Beijing Daxing, marking a strategic step in Chinese carriers’ European expansion. Finnair continues to pursue selective long-haul growth despite challenges posed by Russian airspace restrictions.
“Introducing direct, year-round connectivity is a natural next step,” said Adnan Kazim. “This initiative will strengthen trade links between Finland and the UAE and enhance overall market demand.”
Overall, Emirates’ new route represents a strategic move to establish Helsinki as a regional hub for visitors and goods to and from Asia-Pacific, signaling a strengthening of Finland-UAE trade and tourism ties.
