Etihad Airways and Hong Kong Airlines have announced a new partnership involving both a codeshare agreement and reciprocal loyalty programs, aiming to strengthen connectivity and travel options between Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi. The formal launch took place during a ceremony in Hong Kong on November 4, 2025, coinciding with Etihad's first flight from Abu Dhabi to Hong Kong International Airport. Under this agreement, Hong Kong Airlines flights connecting Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi are now bookable under Etihad’s ‘EY’ code, offering travelers a unified service with simplified check-in and transferred baggage. Moreover, passengers can utilize Hong Kong Airlines’ flights to key Japanese destinations like Fukuoka, Hokkaido-Sapporo, Osaka, and Okinawa under the ‘HX’ code, providing seamless journey options for global travelers.
In addition to enhanced booking convenience, the alliance allows members of the Fortune Wings Club and Etihad Guest to earn and redeem miles across both networks, expanding their reward options. This development builds upon Etihad’s existing partnership with Hainan Airlines, further broadening the scope of its loyalty program. According to Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer of Etihad Airways, the partnership provides meaningful benefits including increased flexibility and broader reach for members. Louis Li, Executive Vice President of Hong Kong Airlines, emphasized that this partnership signifies a key milestone in the airline’s international expansion and cooperation with Middle Eastern hubs, promoting deeper economic and trade ties.
The collaboration is expected to offer significant advantages for both airlines and their customers, fostering growth and connectivity in the region. Officials from both airlines expressed confidence that the alliance would open new commercial opportunities and enhance the travel experience for passengers, especially those traveling between Asia and the Middle East.
