Etihad Airways made history on April 23rd, becoming the inaugural airline to operate from Frankfurt Airport's newly opened Terminal 3. Flight EY122 departed for Abu Dhabi at 10:30 local time, signaling a new era for both the airline and the expanded airport.
The milestone departure was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the gate. Captain Majed Al Marzouqi, Etihad’s Chief Operations and Guest Officer, and Dr. Pierre Dominique Prümm, Chief Technology Officer of Fraport, officiated the event. A highlight of the occasion was the surprise upgrade to Business Class for a couple traveling from Limburg to Singapore, enhancing their journey from the new terminal.
Frankfurt’s new Terminal 3 offers a modern travel experience. Passengers benefit from expansive, naturally lit spaces and a 6,000-square-meter marketplace. This area features diverse restaurants, shops, and lounge areas with apron views. The terminal also provides dedicated facilities for families and business travelers. A new Skyline rail link seamlessly connects all three Frankfurt airport terminals, improving transit efficiency for passengers.
Etihad Airways maintains its commitment to the Frankfurt route with two daily flights connecting Abu Dhabi and Frankfurt. These services utilize Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, underscoring the airline's modern fleet and commitment to passenger comfort. The opening of Terminal 3 represents Frankfurt Airport's ongoing expansion, aimed at modernizing its international gateway and elevating passenger convenience and airport services.
