Aviation services company Metrea is preparing to showcase its Fireswift aerial firefighting aircraft to European governments in the upcoming weeks. The demonstration will feature the De Havilland Canada Dash-8-300 derived multi-mission aircraft to fire departments in Greece and Italy, aiming to highlight its capabilities for firefighting support. The company plans to display the aircraft to firefighting authorities, potentially paving the way for regional adoption of this innovative firefighting solution.

The Fireswift aircraft is designed to address the urgent need for effective aerial firefighting options, especially during wildfire seasons that threaten both rural and urban communities across Southern Europe. Metrea intends to demonstrate how its aircraft can enhance existing firefighting efforts by providing rapid deployment and high-capacity water or fire retardant drops.

European Firefighting Strategies

Based in London, Tony Osborne, an aviation journalist, reported that the company’s initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to strengthen wildfire response strategies within Europe. The presentation will include technical demonstrations and discussions with firefighting officials, emphasizing the aircraft’s versatility and operational benefits.

“This demonstration signals a significant step forward in regional firefighting capabilities,” said Tony Osborne.

According to the report, this move comes as European fire authorities seek more efficient tools to combat increasingly severe wildfires. The demonstration aims to establish credibility for the Fireswift platform, which could become a strategic asset for firefighting agencies across Greece, Italy, and potentially other European nations looking to modernize their aerial firefighting fleets. Metrea’s initiative exemplifies the ongoing trend toward regionalized, technologically advanced firefighting solutions to address climate-related fire risks.
