In 2026, Edelweiss Air AG, a Swiss leisure airline, has adopted Virtual Reality (VR) technology to enhance its pilot training methods. In collaboration with Lufthansa Aviation Training, the airline has introduced the Virtual Procedure Trainer (VPT), a system that provides immersive 3D cockpit simulation for pilot trainees.

Trainees now utilize VR headsets to rehearse cockpit procedures, flows, and checklists in a highly realistic environment prior to graduating to traditional Full Flight Simulators (FFS). This approach allows for independent procedural practice outside of scheduled simulator slots, leading to improved resource utilization and preparedness.

Partnership and Objectives

The initiative is part of a broader partnership with Lufthansa's centralized training provider, aiming to standardize and optimize pilot training processes. By incorporating VR into their training pathway, Edelweiss seeks to enhance efficiency, reduce training costs, and maintain high standards of safety and proficiency.
