Airlines are expanding their international networks as part of their strategic growth plans, with new routes to Europe and the Mediterranean. Alaska Airlines announced the launch of a daily service connecting Seattle-Tacoma International Airport with London Heathrow Airport, using Boeing 787-9 aircraft. This move marks Alaska’s aim to serve at least 12 intercontinental destinations from Seattle by 2030, supported by its growing fleet of 787s.

Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines is establishing a seasonal route from New York John F. Kennedy International Airport to Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport in Sardinia. Operating four times weekly with Boeing 767-300 aircraft, this service becomes the only nonstop connection linking North America directly to Sardinia and is part of Delta’s broader expansion into Italy, which includes multiple new routes and enlarged capacity.

Additionally, WestJet has introduced a service from Toronto Pearson International Airport to Cardiff Airport in Wales. Operated four times weekly with Boeing 737-8 aircraft, this route is notable as the first nonstop Canada-Wales connection since 2008. It complements WestJet’s ongoing efforts to increase its presence across the UK and deepen transatlantic connectivity, especially to regional destinations.

These developments reflect ongoing efforts by North American carriers to strengthen their international presence, foster connectivity, and tap into growing leisure and business travel demand across Europe and the Mediterranean region.
